UV-C Lamps: Integrable Technology for Grease and Odor Control

We design simple and effective air purification systems, fully compatible with existing control units. Our solutions are ideal when combined with pre-filtration systems and UV-C lamp modules, offering advanced management of grease and kitchen odors.

UV-C lamps are recommended only when ozone generators are not included in the project specifications, and the system designer has explicitly chosen this technology as a post-treatment option. These devices, made from AISI 304 stainless steel, are mounted directly above the kitchen hood and can replace the traditional plenum, simplifying installation.

For optimal performance, we recommend using them alongside G3-G4 flat filters, which capture coarse grease particles before UV-C treatment. Their compact design ensures quick installation without modifying the existing setup (see example images).

Increasingly popular in professional kitchen ventilation systems, UV-C lamps address two critical issues:

Grease buildup, a major cause of fire hazards;

Unpleasant odors generated during cooking and frying.

A continuous reduction of airborne grease aerosols throughout the exhaust system extends the lifespan of key components, such as the extractor fan, and keeps ducts hygienically clean. The UV-C Control post-treatment system efficiently breaks down organic particles, reduces residue, and minimizes fire risks and lingering odors in the exhaust air.

THE FUNCTIONS OF UV-C LAMPS

UV-C lamp systems for kitchen exhaust hoods

UV-C lamps are devices capable of emitting ultraviolet light; in addition to this, they are constructed so that the wavelength produces ozone O3, making them ozone generators. It is precisely these two elements, Ozonization and UV light, that perform the functions required by these devices:

– Ultraviolet light and ozone break down grease particles suspended in the air, preventing them from accumulating along the ducts or in the exhaust hood, which could pose a significant fire risk.

– Ozone chemically interacts with the grease particles themselves, oxidizing them. This ensures that the particles lose any unpleasant odor.

The UV-c hood combines the effectiveness of traditional filtering systems with the efficiency of UV lamps generating ozone to reduce odors and grease. The incoming airflow, after passing through the labyrinth filters, reaches the UV lamps, and the generated ozone reacts with the grease and odors, significantly reducing their number.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

The maintenance of a UV system requires approximate cleaning every 300 hours performed with a cloth soaked in detergent. UV lamps have a lifespan of about 6000 hours after which they lose their effectiveness.
